HEADLIGHTS
Like in windscreens, a cloudy or foggy headlight can blur a driver’s vision at night, causing eye strain or fatigue, contributing to slower reaction time and the risk of accidents. Headlight restoration is the act of refinishing aged headlight lenses that have become discoloured or dull.
Our Headlight Restoration service will not only restore the finish of your vehicle’s headlights but also protect them! Most modern car headlights are made from Polycarbonate, a very durable type of plastic.
Car manufacturers apply a UV protection layer to headlights during the assembly process. Still, unfortunately, if this is not protected regularly with a sealant or wax, it will degrade and become cloudy. Harsh chemicals used by ‘local hand car washes’ will also accelerate this degrading process. We also remove scratches and sandblast on plastic/polycarbonate and glass lenses.
Like in windshields, a cloudy or foggy headlight can blur a driver’s vision at night, causing eye strain or fatigue, contributing to slower reaction time and risk of accidents. Headlight restoration is the act of refinishing aged headlight lenses that have become discoloured or dull due to oxidation primarily due to UV light and other environmental factors such as road debris impact (stones, sand, etc.), rain, and exposure to caustic chemicals.
Over time the protective hard-coat breaks down with UV degradation and wears from abrasion, etc. If left untreated, the headlights will eventually develop small surface cracks, and a condition referred to as crazing. The effectiveness of the headlight in terms of light output measured in lux can be significantly reduced. This condition which results in hazy and discoloured lenses, is known for causing reduced night time visibility for drivers
as the situation becomes worse.
We restore headlight clarity by removing haze from the lens and provide a durable, spray-on, protective UV sealant that helps protect the lens from future damage.
